The 2012 theme for John Blair Lodge is “Setting the Craft to Work”. One aspect of Freemasonry that I have learned to appreciate is that improving ourselves in Masonry requires both individual work and Lodge work. One usually cannot improve himself in Masonry without the support of a strong and harmonious Lodge, but a Lodge cannot reach its full potential without each member actively participating in both individual work and Lodge work. There is much work yet to be done in the quarries of Freemasonry. Is this work primarily found in our ritual and Masonic degrees? Are we an inwardly focused organization seeking to improve the hearts and minds of our members? How much of our work consist of charity and active participation in the community? Does our work include public outreach and display of Masonry? Throughout the year, we will explore, discuss, and define what the “work” of John Blair Lodge includes. It is my hope that, by helping members define what Freemasonry means on a personal level and what role it plays in each of our lives, we can further define what our work as a Lodge involves…and Set the Craft to Work! | |
